The Flash of Genius movie is based on an article written by John Seabrook that appeared in New Yorker magazine in 1993 under the same name. It is a true story about Dr. Robert Kearns and the intermittent wipers that he invented and then patented in 1964.

Both Seabrook’s article and the movie narrate a “David vs Goliath” like tale of Bob Kearns taking on Ford Motor company in a patent infringement case that he eventually won nearly three decades later in 1990.

Dr. Robert Kearns died in 2005.
